Santa, from the work Other, is not the jolly figure of Christmas lore but a former detective named Nick. He reinvents himself in a dystopian future where humanity has colonized other planets. On the planet Other, inhabited by sentient insectoids called the Kthan, Nick becomes a local legend by delivering gifts of technology and knowledge to the Kthan people.

Adopting the persona of "Santa," Nick uses his understanding of human innovation to bridge the gap between the Kthan and more advanced species. He provides the Kthan with tools and concepts, helping them evolve and defend themselves against exploitative corporations.

However, this Santa is burdened by a past tragedy and seeks redemption through his actions on Other. He operates in the shadows, navigating political complexities and corporate greed to protect the Kthan. His motivations are complex, fueled by both altruism and a desire to atone for his past failures. He is far from the traditional Santa, instead a flawed figure striving to make a positive impact in a morally ambiguous universe.
